Dear Madam/Sir;

My colleagues and I are planning to invite nurses of developed and developing countries who are practicing in an advanced nursing role, such as a Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Practice Nurse (NP/APN) to participate in an online survey. Confidentiality will be assured . The aim of the study is to compare the level of job satisfaction between Nurse Practitioners/Advanced Practice Nurses (NPs/APNs) in developing countries to those practicing in developed countries. For the purpose of this study, developed and developing countries were defined using the International Statistical Institute’s Gross National Income (GNI) list and the Human Development Index (HDI) which combines indicators of life expectancy, educational attainment and income into a composite human development index.
We will utilize the International Council of Nurses (ICN) definition of an NP/APN which is “a registered nurse who has acquired the expert knowledge base, complex decision-making skills and clinical competencies for expanded practice, the characteristics of which are shaped by the context and/or country in which s/he is credentialed to practice. A master’s degree is recommended for entry level” (ICN, 2002), but for purposes of this study, not required.
We understand that the level of entry to the NP / APN register differs with every country. If you have nurses in your country who consider themselves nurse practitioners or advanced practice nurses, we would like to contact them via email, so that we can offer them a chance to contribute to this important online survey. We have approval from the institutional review boards of our home universities, as well as support from the ICN – see attached. If you are interested in participating in the online survey, we would like to contact you in the future. There is no obligation to participate in the study.
